Fun Things to Do with Your Dogs This Summer

There’s still a little bit of summer left, so be sure to get out and engage in all the summer pet activities you can enjoy before fall arrives, the days get shorter and the weather gets cooler.

We’ve got a list of fun summer pet ideas in case you’re having a hard time planning out the rest of the free time you have to spend with your pooch this summer. Check it out!

  • Hiking: There are few things more satisfying than a stroll through a park or in the countryside with your furry companion alongside you. Be sure the weather isn’t too hot (for you as well as for the dog) before going, and that you’ve planned out a walk that isn’t too strenuous for your pet. In addition, bring water both for you and for the dog so you both stay hydrated!
  • Camping; If you have a dog that loves to be outside, consider taking them camping with you and the rest of your family! If you’ve never taken your dog camping before, it’s a good idea to prepare them for the experience beforehand. Consider having them sleep overnight with you in a tent in your backyard. Make sure you research dog-friendly campsites, and get the right gear to keep the dog comfortable. In many cases, dogs love to get outside and experience new places, and will have a great time camping.
  • Head to the beach: Not every dog is a beach dog, but those dogs that love the beach really love it. It’s a great chance for your dog to enjoy the waves, run around in the sand or simply laze around under your beach umbrella or canopy. Be sure to bring water, toys and treats, as well as bags to pick up droppings.
  • Pool days: Some people enjoy getting their dog little kiddie pools to splash around in, but there are others who take their dogs into actual swimming pools. Before you let your dog jump into the water, just make sure they’re comfortable with it and that you take the proper precautionary measures before teaching the dog to swim. You might even consider investing in some doggie swimming lessons.
  • Get the dog friends over: If you want to give your dog a play date, consider having a bunch of friends and their dogs over as well. Throw a barbecue with your friends and family, and let the dogs run around and play together while you all enjoy the nice weather. It’s an easy, laidback way to enjoy the summer and give your pets some exercise and socialization time.
  • Do some pet photography: If you want to get some good photos of your pet to remember them forever, summer is a great time to get out and stage some doggie photos. The lighting and backgrounds will be ideal.
